Guide to submitting a potential site for a replacement Royal Preston Hospital or Royal Lancaster Infirmary for consideration

Whilst the NHS in Lancashire and South Cumbria has identified and secured preferred proposed sites for new hospitals on new sites to replace both Royal Preston Hospital (Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust) and Royal Lancaster Infirmary (University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust), it remains open to and welcoming of suggestions of alternative sites.

In order for a site to be considered, it would need to meet certain criteria as outlined below.

Criteria for potential sites

Site location

The site should be located within a circa 10-mile radius of one of the existing hospital sites.

The postcodes of the existing sites are:

• Royal Preston Hospital – PR2 9HT
• Lancaster Royal Infirmary – LA1 4RP

Site size

The requirements for site size for each new hospital location are as follows:

• Replacement Royal Preston Hospital within a circa 10-mile radius of PR2 9HT: minimum 60 acres
• Replacement Royal Lancaster Infirmary within a circa 10-mile radius of LA1 4RP: minimum 40 acres.

Motorway access

The site should be located with accessibility to a motorway junction (with access to both directions), which would allow ease of access from the motorway for both the North West Ambulance Service and the wider public.

Public transport

Ideally public transport will be provided in the area in which the site is located.

How sites will be assessed

The site will be assessed against the following parameters: proximity to existing site, existing highways infrastructure, plot size for anticipated design, planning and environmental conditions.

How to submit a site for consideration

If you are the landowner or agent of a site that meets the essential criteria outlined above, please register an interest by emailing LSCNHP@lthtr.nhs.uk with the subject: Site for review.

Please include plot location (postcode), plot size (acreage), summary of any known site restrictions (title, planning, utilities, etc.), summary of any existing surveys (topography, ground, flood, etc.) and confirm your role in relation to the site (landowner / agent) and your contact details.
